Prevalencia de Consumo de Drogas y Alcohol, y su Relación con la Resiliencia y el Estrés en los Estudiantes de la Carrera de Psicología y la Facultad de Medicina de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras en el período de 2021.

Abstract

Drug use and its relationship with the levels of resilience and stress in students has been the object of study of several investigations in many countries. Resilience is the ability to recover and maintain adaptive behavior after suffering intense stress or traumatic experiences and it is related to problem behavior, such as drug use. The presence of stress is associated with drug use since it constitutes an easy and fast way to experience pleasant sensations, modify the feelings associated with emotional discomfort, reduce emotional disorders, mitigate tension, stress and face changes and pressures in the environment because of its effects on the nervous system. This study compares the levels of resilience and stress present in university students, in order to determine whether there is a relationship between these levels and the prevalence of drug use the data collection was carried out by an instrument that consisted of 3 scales: Resilience Scale of Wagnild & Young, Stress Perception Scale and the Alcohol, Smoking and Substance Involvement Screening Test. The studied population was determined by a sample that was made of 291 students from the Medical School and 294 students that belong to the carrier of Psychology; both schools in the main campus of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras in Tegucigalpa. The obtained results of the complete sample revealed that there is a capacity of resiliency of medium and high level on the individuals, there is also a medium level of stress considered, and furthermore 57.3% of the population used illicit drugs without representing a high level of consumption.
