| dc.description.abstract | This quantitative study explores the relationship between the use of social media, sleep habits and self-control in (N-906) college students at the National Autonomous University of Honduras. Social media has an increasingly important role in the socialization process of young adults. In COVID-19 and now post COVID-19 times, internet access has been key to the educational development of college students, opening more doors not just to benefit but to increase the use/abuse of technology and social media, causing possible negative effects on mental health, especially in sleeping habits and self-control of young adults. Quality and duration of sleep is associated to mental and physical wellness, and for college students have a special impact on academic performance. Students with more self-control seem to manage the social media usage. According to the results obtained, students on average reported a fair sleep quality and an average self-control score of 40.5 (medium level). The older the students were, the more self-control they reported. No relationship was found between the number of social networks used by students and sleep quality (r=-0.02; p=0.471). A statistically significant positive relationship was found between self-control and sleep quality (r=0.23, p=.001). | es |
