Resumen:
The present research has the objective of analyzing the prevalence of mental disorders and its relationship with the family dynamics in the adult population of the department of El Paraíso; This was done using two instruments, the SRQ proposed by WHO in 2001, which serves to screen for probable mental disorders and the FF-SIL Family Functional Questionnaire, which measures the level of functionality and dysfunctionality in Families (Ortega, 2003).
The research method is based on a non-experimental, descriptive, quantitative, cross-sectional design with a multistage sampling, with a representative sample of 300 adult individuals from the department of El Paraíso, to obtain the analytical results of the research. In conclusion, the symptomatology of the most prevalent mental disorders is: depression, followed by posttraumatic stress, anxiety, drug dependence, alcohol dependence and epilepsy, finding significant differences in risk according to geographical origin, gender, Marital status, and age.
Regarding the family dynamics in the department, the results obtained reflect that the family in El Paraíso is functional, so it will be considered as one of the determining factors in the mental health of the members.
