Resumen:
The purpose of this research is to establish the prevalence of mental disorder and their relation with the problems caused by drug consumption on adults in the municipality of Gracias and the municipality of Flores located in Lempira department. We used the instrument developed by the OMS, named SRQ, which is used for making a screening for possible mental disorders, another screening tool named DAST was used, for exploring the problems caused by drug abuse and finally we made a survey that was used for gathering information about social-demographic attributes. These screening tools were applied on a sample of 300 households, 150 households on the urban area, and 150 households on the rural area. The sampling used on this research was the systematic sampling, chosen for a polyvalent research. Nonetheless, the method of investigation is quantitative the descriptive scope from cross cut. By its nature is a prevalence research, and of field from the representative sample of the population generates.
The results indicate the symptomatology caused by post-traumatic stress has a higher prevalence on the department of Lempira with 31%. Males show a prevalence of 51.2%, also the people in between 31-50 years show a prevalence with 35.2%. However, the prevalence of symptoms of mental disorders in the rural area are from 52.5%, on the other side the prevalence of drug consumption in Lempira are from 14.3%, being the drug addiction the biggest problems with a prevalence of 55.7%. On the basis of the results of this research we can conclude a positive trend between mental disorders and problems caused by drug consumption. So we can say if the person has a lot of problems on his life caused by drug addiction the chances of suffering from any mental disorder will be higher.
