Abstract:
Suicide is defined as the deliberate action, where an individual decides to end his life. According to the WHO, each year, approximately 703,000 people commit suicide and in 2019, it was the fourth cause of death within the age group of 15 to 29 years worldwide; In Honduras, these types of cases have been increasing in recent years, especially in the adolescent population. The objective of this study is to analyze the relationship between family communication, parental support and suicide risk in students of the National Autonomous University of Honduras, in the year 2021; the analysis was carried out from the quantitative approach; For the collection of information, a sociodemographic data sheet and three scales were used to evaluate the psychological constructs of interest, which were: Brief Parental Scale, Brief Family Relationship Scale and Suicidal Cognition-Behavior-Affect Scale; being one of the greatest findings, that the majority of the students declared that they have the support of their parents or caregivers and that they maintain a good relationship in the family, producing a sense of belonging within it; In addition to assertive communication and adequate conflict resolution, these being protection and safety factors and resulting in the fact that they do not have suicidal ideas or desires. It is generally concluded that parental support and good family communication in young adults is essential to avoid or prevent suicidal ideation or attempts.
