Abstract:
This study addresses the emotional experiences and challenges faced by parents of children diagnosed with ASD. It also identifies and analyzes the coping strategies used by parents to manage burnout associated with parenting, as well as assesses the levels of burnout derived from this experience. The study used a qualitative methodological approach, allowing for an in-depth exploration of participants' experiences through semi-structured interviews conducted on a personal and individual basis. Convenience sampling was also used, considering the most accessible individuals at the time. This sampling was selected to ensure the participation of individuals interested in and committed to the research. Furthermore, the data obtained were analyzed using relevant literature, allowing for a specific interpretation of the strategies implemented in relation to burnout. Thus, the initial results identified that parents employ empirically based strategies adapted to their children's specific needs, such as anticipating activities and social integration. Finally, it was found that emotional disturbances and fatigue are common in the diagnosis, so some parents manage to develop resilience during the process.
