Abstract:
The poverty situation in the country has been a major determinant for the development and implementation of social programs and policies, which has been reflected with greater intensity in some departments over others. The department of Intibucá is among the departments with the highest levels of poverty and is characterized by a population that is mostly of Lenca indigenous tradition.
The social protection system is designed to respond to identified needs that society has established as a priority and that can be resolved by the State through the corresponding institutions.
The social protection policy in Honduras has its antecedents in the last decades of the twentieth century, however, it does not mean that the situation of social, economic and political crises has not been important before this time, these
situations have always been present in all political processes and institutional organization of the country.
