Resumen:
The objective of this article is to analyze the prevalence of mental disorders in relation with the family functionality in adult population of the department of Comayagua, Honduras, 2016. It is a study with a quantitative approach, correlational in scope, non-experimental design, cross-sectional, with a multi-stage sampling with selection criteria where 300 dwellings were surveyed, using the SRQ symptom questionnaire for adolescents, young people and adult’s instruments, proposed by the OMS for the detection of symptoms of probable mental disorders and the FFSL Family Functioning Questionnaire (Ortega Alvelay, Fernández Vidal, & Osorio Pagola, 2003).
We worked with the SPSS program to obtain the analytical results of this research. Mental disorders of the highest prevalence are by post-traumatic stress disorder, followed by depression and anxiety, then drug and alcohol dependence and epilepsy at the last. Regarding the geographical origin with the highest prevalence is the urban area; the higher frequency of the probable mental disorders is in the female gender, as well as the persons between 18 to 30 years of age, in the same way the singles. In relation to the families of Comayagua, they presented functional family dynamics, that the greater the functioning family dynamics, less presence of mental disorders. In conclusion, the probable prevalence of mental disorders in the department of Comayagua is 58.7%, which is higher than what is reported by the OMS (2002).
